When it gets darker – how to get through the dark season safely and relaxed.

The days are getting shorter, the light is fading faster – and before you know it, you're standing in the twilight with your leash in your hand. The dark season brings some challenges for us dog lovers – but also cosy moments and opportunities to strengthen the bond with our four-legged friends.

Visibility means safety

Whether on your morning walk or evening stroll, good visibility saves lives. Reflective leashes, bright collars or vests are not a fashion gimmick, but a real life insurance policy – for dogs and humans alike. Even a small light on the harness helps drivers to see you in time.


Exercise yes – but with caution

When the weather is wet and cold and the paths are slippery, exercise can often be difficult. But it is especially important at this time of year to keep muscles and joints supple. Make sure your dog is dried thoroughly after the walk, especially on the belly and paws. A cosy place to retreat to at home will ensure that they don't get cold.


Don't forget paw care

Salt, grit and cold floors can be hard on sensitive paws. A nourishing paw balm or a little coconut oil after a walk helps to prevent cracks. And please, no hot baths – lukewarm water is perfectly adequate for rinsing off road salt residue.


Imagination instead of cabin fever

When it's uncomfortable outside, dogs enjoy a change of scenery indoors. Nose games, trick training or little brain teasers keep their minds and spirits active – and at the same time strengthen the trust between you.


Together through the darkness

The dark season is not just grey and dreary – it is also an invitation to find peace. A walk in the fog, a moment of silence in the park or the contented panting of your dog on the sofa – all of this reminds us of what really matters: closeness, trust and time for each other.
